WHY IS EP UNIQUE?   EP is unique because it is a bilingual, nonprofit school dedicated to excellence.  EP emphasizes an exciting, rigorous curriculum that is taught by highly qualified teachers and augmented by community volunteers.  Classes are taught using an integrated approach with integrated grades in an intimate setting.  EP also features parent and volunteer community activities.  EP is a legal nonprofit Mexican organization that is professionally managed by an elected Board of Directors (BOD) that will use all tuition and donations to cover expenses and invest in the growth of EP’s programs.  EP is one of the first nonprofit, bilingual schools in Mexico and will provide scholarships to deserving children through donations. 

WHAT IS THE TEACHER TO STUDENT RATIO?   EP is creating intimate classroom settings and giving each student a more personalized education by limiting classrooms to fifteen students.

HOW MUCH DOES EP COST? EP's current tuition is 3000 pesos for the ten month education period.  There is a 5000 peso inscription fee.  

WHEN CAN I ENROLL MY CHILD FOR EP?   Enrollment for EP begins in March 2010. 

WHEN CAN I TURN IN A SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FOR MY CHILD? Scholarship applications for EP begins in March 2010. The selection date is to be announced.

IS EP CERTIFIED?  EP is working with SEP towards its formalized certification for the 2010/2011.

WHEN WILL SCHOOL START/END?  EP will follow the public school calendar. 

WHY IS THERE TUITION IF EP IS A NONPROFIT SCHOOL?   Government funded alternative education is not an option in Mexico.  The EP founders chose a tuition based, nonprofit school where all tuition and donations could be put into the continued development of the school, open educational doors for local children, and create community projects.  The financial management of EP is the responsibility of the BOD.

WHO IS EP FOR?  EP was created by a multi-cultural group of parents and volunteers for all children in the Todos Santos area.  The more arduous and demanding path to the Mexican Secretaria de Educacion Publica (SEP) certification was chosen over foreign and home schooling accreditation in order to open the doors for all students. Scholarship priority is given to individuals with local heritage and an economic need. 

HOW IS THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS CHOSEN?   Parents and active volunteers elect five individuals to the EP Board of Directors (BOD).  EP’s mission and bylaws guide the BOD.

WHAT DOES EP OFFER THE TODOS SANTOS AREA?   EP offers superb education to its students.  EP will give Todos Santos a new generation of bi-lingual creative thinkers and self-motivated problem solvers from diverse backgrounds. EP also gives community members and organizations the opportunity to participate in programs. 

HOW DOES THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM WORK?   Donations and a portion of tuition will underwrite the scholarship program.  EP will have a culturally mixed student body that is globally aware, locally connected and sensitive to diversity.  Scholarship priority will be given to children with Todos Santos heritage and an economic need. 

HOW CAN INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS ASSIST EP?   To meet its goals EP relies on fundraising, donations and volunteer support.  The following are ways you can help:  Cash or in kind donations (EP is a Mexican nonprofit organization); Sponsorship of tuition for a local child; supporting EP fundraisers; or volunteering your time/skills with the children. 

WHAT KIND OF ACADEMIC PROGRAMS DOES EP HAVE?   The elementary students at EP, grades one to six, are instructed in the core subjects (reading/writing, math, science, social studies), which are creatively based on SEP curriculum, for approximately four hours per school day.  The students also attend English classes for two hours each day.  The English instructional time is designed to support and enrich the content of the Spanish curriculum.  Both the Spanish and English program components will emphasize ecological literacy, multicultural perspectives, a sense of place, sustainable economics, citizenship, and creativity/visioning. 

WHAT DOES EP OFFER ENROLLED STUDENTS?   EP is dedicated to providing a learning experience that focuses on the uniqueness of each student in a multicultural, bilingual educational setting.  Lessons are individualized to meet the intellectual, emotional, and language needs of each student.  In addition to the standard grade level SEP curriculum, the students are provided with activities that focus on the cultural arts, ecology, community projects, physical education, technology, and life skills as a global citizen.  

WHAT DOES SUSTAINABLE MEAN TO EP?   EP is a sustainable school. It considers physical (materials, economics, nourishment) and conceptual (curriculum, treatment of other, working together) sustainability.  In order to teach physical sustainability EP has, an in-house recycling program, an organic garden, promotes alternative transportation and EP’s BOD and volunteers are working hard to make EP economically sustainable. EP teaches the concept of sustainability through its curriculum, respect among its students, group work and community connections.
